FAVORITE 10 BOOKS FOR CHRISTIAN WOMEN

If I'm honest, my mother usually resorted to bribery to get me to read as a child.  (Crazy for an author that didn't like to read). Signing up for our small-town library's Summer Reading Program was a summer staple, which usually ended with a side trip to the local Benjamin Frankline $5 & .10 (yes, I realize how old that makes me sound) for a small treat.  I typically opted for hair clips or ponytail holders.  And on an occasion, we ran by Dairy Queen for a dipped cone, perfect for any summer day in Texas.

These are all books I have read and changed my heart for the Lord!

As an adult, I'm known to read in spurts, which would surprise my former college professors, since as both a foreign language major and an English minor, I read, annotated, translated & devoured my reading lists as student who actually cared.

For many years after, I did not read at all, much to the chagrin of my mother who was and still is a veracious reader. Maybe I was burned out from college, but times would change in the future, along with my habits. When I did read, it was generally Christian non-fiction or parenting books but soon began what I considered to be ‘clean fiction’, often keeping me up late into the morning hours trying to finish something that had me spell bound.

As a new mom, reading became a way of escape from the stress of figuring out discipline, laundry, errands and two little girls squabbling. I was managing solo some of the time with Reggie traveling, and my generally anxious-leaning heart needed an outlet.

Then I discovered Christian fiction, something that was new for me.

"Above all else, guard your heart for everything you do flows from it. Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways." Proverbs 4:23-26 NIV

10 BOOKS THAT I LOVE TO RECOMMEND*

The types of books and genres that I stick to now hasn't changed. As a Christ follower, I work  diligently to guard my mind and heart from things that leave a door open for doubts or insights into lives that bear no markings of a life lived for a power above their own. And these types of literature help me accomplish that goal.

Thanks for always being so kind & following along!
